The professional floor covering industry is facing an unprecedented crisis. There is a shortage of installers coming into the trade.

 

The Floor Covering Education Foundation (FCEF) was established with a primary focus of addressing the installation crisis currently impacting the floor covering industry.

 

The FCEF exists to provide access and/or incentives to individuals pursuing post-high school and continuing education career opportunities available within the floor covering industry.

 

The overall mission of the foundation is to provide awareness of the job opportunities and career pathways available in the floor covering industry, to connect individuals to training opportunities within the industry, to scholarship that training, and to place those individuals in jobs within the floor covering industry.

Floorcovering installers install, repair and replace floorcovering materials including hardwood, carpet, vinyl, and tile in commercial, residential and industrial buildings.

A comprehensive recruitment plan will focus on high school Juniors and Seniors during the critical time when they are evaluating career and educational options. Get important information about the duties, working conditions, and skills and abilities needed to work in this trade.

Scholarships will be awarded to students seeking flooring training in either a flooring program at a trade or technical school, or an industry managed program that leads to certification in any flooring installation skill. The focus is on programs that lead to a certification, diploma, or degree.

The Foundation will coordinate apprenticeships and job placement for the students upon completion of their course of training and certification. We will develop and maintain a job placement program and be a conduit between educators, students and employers. It will be our goal to place students directly into the workforce upon successfully completing their studies.

The flooring industry is experiencing a critical shortage of trained and certified flooring craftsmen. The crisis is expected to get significantly worse over the next ten years as the aging workforce retires and graduating high-schoolers choose alternate careers.

 

This industry-sponsored Foundation has began attacking one of the core issues – student recruitment and education.  It will take industry-wide cooperation and support to make an impact as no one entity has the capacity to solve it on their own. It will bring industry leaders, educational institutions, retailers and others together to recruit, train, certify and place new flooring talent into great careers in the flooring trade.
